Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Publication of materials in the journal is carried out through the Open Journal System (https://publications.ayu.edu.kz) - an online submission and peer-review system.

    1. The journal accepts previously unpublished articles. Manuscripts must be submitted electronically (docx format) via the journal's website https://publications.ayu.edu.kz (Open Journal System).
    2. The optimal length of a scientific article (excluding title, author information, and references) should be no less than 3,000 words and no more than 7,000 words.
    3. Paragraph indent - 1 cm; line spacing - single; page margins: top - 2 cm; bottom - 2 cm; right - 2 cm; left - 2 cm. Font size - 12 pt; font - Times New Roman. Page numbering is not required.
    4. Figures, tables, graphs, diagrams, etc. must be numbered and titled within the text (e.g., Figure 1. Title of the figure). The total number of visual materials must not exceed 20% (in some cases 30%) of the total article volume. Tables must be numbered and provided with titles. All visuals must be referenced in the text.
    5. First page:
      • UDC - Universal Decimal Classification index; GRNTI (https://grnti.ru) - State Rubricator of Scientific and Technical Information; ORCID https://orcid.org (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) - a unique non-proprietary alphanumeric identifier for researchers;
      • Full name(s) of the author(s) (no more than 5 authors), affiliation, city, country, and email address must be provided in three languages (Kazakh, Russian, English). Author information should be in lowercase, font - Times New Roman, size - 11 pt, italic;
      • Full author details (full name, academic degree, affiliation, address, mobile phone, email) must be submitted at the end of an additional file.
    6. Article title must reflect the content of the research. It should be informative, clear, and precise. Avoid sensational wording. The title must be provided in Kazakh, Russian, English, and Turkish, in bold and uppercase letters.
    7. Abstract - 150-250 words in three languages (Kazakh, Russian, English). If the article is in Turkish, then in four languages. Formulas and bibliographic references should not be included. The abstract should briefly describe the purpose, content, key results, and specific features of the study.
    8. Keywords / key phrases - a set of terms reflecting the content of the text in terms of subject area and research methods. Recommended number: 5-7; each phrase should contain no more than 3 words. Provided in three languages (Kazakh, Russian, English), or four if the article is in Turkish. Keywords should reflect the core content and enhance discoverability in information retrieval systems.
    9. Main text. The article must include the purpose and objectives, background of the research problem, research methods, discussion of results, and conclusion.
      • Introduction - presents the topic, objectives, and stages of the research, enabling understanding of the hypothesis and methods of verification.
      • Research methods / materials and methods - describes the methods and materials used in the study.
      • Analysis and results - the core section, including not only methods but also theoretical analysis and substantiation of the results. Findings may be presented in text, tables, diagrams, and statistical data.
      • Conclusion - summarizes the results and provides final conclusions based on the study, including the author's scientific perspective.

Funding information - if applicable (provided in italics at the end of the article in the language of publication). Sources of funding (grants, projects, etc.) must be indicated.

Statement on the use of artificial intelligence technologies: Authors may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools at various stages of manuscript preparation, including writing, editing, fact-checking, and data analysis. However, authors must explicitly disclose the use of generative AI and related technologies in the article.

    1. The AI model used must be cited in the References section in the following format: Model name. (year, month, day). Description of the prompt or content [Large Language Model]. Platform name. URL.
    2. References. The reference list should include 15-20 sources, with at least 30% being foreign and/or indexed in international databases. It is recommended to include at least 10 sources from the past 3-5 years (including Scopus/Web of Science). DOI must be provided for journal articles.

Self-citation limit: no more than 20% of the total references.

In-text citations

Citations are given in author-year format: (Gursoy, Sizdikov, Tadzhibaev, 2023)

If an author has multiple works in the same year: (Baitanaev, 2019a), (Baitanaev, 2019b)

The reference list must be provided in English only.

The References section must follow APA style and be presented in English. English-language sources should be given in their original form.

If the original source is in Kazakh or Russian, it should be formatted as follows: author(s) → (year) → transliterated title [English translation in square brackets] → publication details (in English) → (in Russian)/(in Kazakh).

Example: Baytanaev B. (2019). Kurgan Urdzhar: İstoria otkritia i nekotorie itogi issledovania. [Kurgan of Urdzhar: History of Discovery and Some Results of the Study]. Arkheologia Kazakhstana. 2 (4). P. 9-22. (in Russian).

  1. The article must comply with principles of academic ethics. It is also recommended to cite articles published in the journals "Turan Archaeology" and "Bulletin of the Khoja Akhmet Yassawi International Kazakh-Turkish University".
  2. Articles are accepted from Kazakhstan, Turkey, and other countries. Journal email: archeology.institute@ayu.edu.kz
  3. Scientific articles are accepted for publication after double-blind peer review and editorial decision.
  4. Manuscripts are not returned. The editorial board is not responsible for the content of the article.

Confidentiality Policy

The journal "Turan Archaeology" does not disclose information about submitted manuscripts to third parties prior to publication, except for assigned reviewers. The editorial board also does not disclose information about reviewers to authors or others.
