The article considers new priorities of the professional education system in accordance with the requirements of the modern labor market, which have radically changed in the context of globalization and digital transformation. Along with traditional professional competencies, it is proved that soft skills such as communicative, leadership, creativity, emotional intelligence, teamwork, adaptability, critical thinking are becoming increasingly important. The authors describe flexible skills as a key prerequisite for professional success. The study analyzes the meaning and content of soft skills, describes their main classification in the international scientific and pedagogical literature, as well as methods of formation and assessment. Successful experiences in the higher education systems of the USA, Great Britain, Finland, Singapore, and Germany are cited as examples. National features and opportunities for the development of soft skills in Kazakhstan are analyzed within the framework of such programs as “Digital Kazakhstan”, “New Formation Teacher”, “Education in New Conditions”. The authors emphasize the need for higher education institutions to revise curricula aimed at the development of soft skills and introduce practice-oriented digital and interactive technologies. The results of the study show that the systematic formation of soft skills in the vocational education system contributes to improving the quality of education and training of professionals who are competitive in the labor market.
