Conditions for publishing a manuscript

The editorial office of the “Yassawi Journal of Philology” accepts articles that have not been published previously by the author(s), correspond to the Journal’s thematic areas, and are formatted strictly in accordance with the manuscript requirements, in Kazakh, Turkish, Russian, and English.

The corresponding author submits the manuscript of a research article to the editorial board at least two months before the publication of the next issue. For publication in the Journal, manuscripts are accepted with a main text of at least 3,000 and no more than 7,000 words; for publication of articles written in English, manuscripts of not less than 10 pages are accepted.

The author must submit the manuscript through the electronic platform, indicating all metadata and its authors.

Authors must submit to the editorial office the original version of the article that has not been published previously in other outlets (print, electronic, and other open sources). Authors are responsible for the accuracy, novelty, and validity of the research results. During editorial processing or peer review by the reviewers of the “Yassawi Journal of Philology”, as well as after the article has been published, the authors may not submit this manuscript for publication to another outlet.

Communication between the editorial office and article authors and reviewers is carried out online via the OJS electronic platform and, when necessary, via email.

The author submits two versions of the manuscript to the Journal’s editorial office; one version must contain author information (full name, academic degree, affiliation, author details). The responsible specialist of the Scientific Publications Department checks the manuscript for compliance with technical requirements.

The editorial office organizes peer review of manuscripts received from the author(s); all manuscripts undergo anonymous (“blind”) peer review. Based on the results, the editorial board and the scientific editor make the final decision on publication or refusal. On average, the decision to publish an article is made within 8 months.

Publication is carried out in the general order of the queue as the material becomes ready. The editorial office has the right to form the publication order in accordance with the sections of the issues being prepared.

Text copying and plagiarism

Plagiarism checks of scholarly articles are carried out by the Journal’s executive secretary in accordance with the “Rule for checking text usage in assessed written works of students, teaching staff’s instructional-methodological and scholarly works” (UE-KHTU-100-2022).

A scholarly article must present research results that have not been published previously and are not intended for publication in other outlets.

The originality of the text of scholarly articles submitted for publication in the Journal must be at least 75%. If the originality requirement is not met and AI-generated texts are identified, the article is returned. An article with an originality score above 75% that matches the Journal’s scope and publication requirements is accepted for consideration and sent for peer review.

Authors must guarantee that the research results presented in the manuscript are fully original. Any used excerpts and arguments must be accompanied by mandatory attribution and citation of the primary source. Any form of plagiarism-including excessive text borrowing, misrepresentation of sources without proper referencing, or appropriation of another person’s research results-is unethical and unacceptable. Information provided without citations is regarded by the editorial board as plagiarism.

Authors bear full responsibility for any content generated with the use of artificial intelligence. The use of artificial intelligence for statistical processing of data obtained as a result of research is permitted. When artificial intelligence is used, the artificial intelligence source must be explicitly disclosed in compliance with research ethics. The “Research Methods and Materials” section must clearly state which tool was used, for what purpose, and at which stage of the study. When using artificial intelligence technologies in an article, scientific results, recommendations, and conclusions must be formulated independently by the author or the team of authors. The use of artificial intelligence to write the main body of the article, to present false information, or to circumvent plagiarism detection is prohibited.

Type and procedure of peer review

All scholarly articles submitted to the Journal’s editorial office undergo mandatory double-blind peer review (the reviewer does not know the authors of the manuscript; the authors of the manuscript do not know the reviewers).

Peer review is carried out by reviewers-leading experts in the relevant fields of education and science from internal and external/foreign higher education institutions. The decision on selecting a specific reviewer for article evaluation is made by the editors. The review period is 2–4 weeks, but it may be extended at the reviewer’s request.

Each reviewer has the right to refuse evaluation if an obvious conflict of interest arises that affects the acceptance of the manuscript material. Based on the results of manuscript evaluation, the reviewer provides recommendations:

  • “Accept the article” - if there are no comments on the manuscript and it meets the requirements for relevance and originality of scientific research, the manuscript is included in the Journal’s list of recommended publications;
  • “The article requires additional revision” - in this case, the article is sent to the authors to address the comments. After receiving the revised text in accordance with the reviewer’s comments, the editorial office may recommend the article for publication without sending it to the reviewer for a second review;
  • “Send the article for re-review” - in this case, the article is sent to the authors to address the comments. After receiving the revised text, the editorial office sends the article to the reviewer for a second review. If the reviewer has substantial comments, the article is sent to the reviewer for a third review. If the third review contains minor comments, the article is recommended for publication by decision of the editorial office; if a positive review is still not obtained, the article is returned by editorial decision without the right of further resubmission for review;
  • “Reject the article” - in this case, if the second reviewer’s opinion is positive, the article is sent to a third reviewer. If the third reviewer’s opinion is also negative, the article is rejected by editorial decision.

Reviewers must not use generative AI tools when evaluating manuscripts.

At the next editorial meeting, after reviews are received, submitted articles are considered, and based on the reviewers’ conclusions a final decision is made to publish the article or to refuse publication.

Pre-press preparation for publication is mandatory and consists of technical editing, including monitoring compliance with the adopted formatting standards and the Journal’s rules for publishing articles.

Copyright and certification (licensing)

The Journal provides open access that allows users, without any restrictions, to read, download, copy, distribute, print articles, and link to their full texts with proper copyright attribution. Authors retain copyright and grant the Journal the right of first publication of the manuscript. All published manuscripts are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution license https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0, which allows others to copy, distribute, and adapt the material provided that authorship is acknowledged and a reference to this Journal is given. Authors may enter into additional non-exclusive distribution agreements for the published version of the manuscript (e.g., depositing in repositories or publishing in a book), provided that a reference to this Journal is included. Authors are entitled to post their work online (e.g., in an institutional repository or on a personal website) before the peer review process and after publication in the Journal.

Conflict of interest

According to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), a conflict of interest in scholarly publishing is a situation arising from the author’s, reviewer’s, or editor’s financial or personal/professional reasons.

A conflict of interest may arise even after the reviewer’s and editorial board’s scholarly evaluation. As a result of disagreements between the parties, the decision regarding the publication of the manuscript will be made by the editorial staff and the editorial board members.

Unpublished information obtained from submitted manuscripts must not be used for personal purposes and must not be disclosed to third parties without the author’s written consent. Information or ideas obtained during review must be kept confidential and not used for personal purposes. If disagreements of interests arise as a result of the research, editors must refuse to handle the manuscript (and ask another editor or a member of the editorial board to handle it). Editors must require all authors to disclose competing interests and, if competing interests are identified after publication, to publish corrections. Where necessary, other appropriate measures should be taken, such as publishing an opinion or issuing an expression of concern.

If a conflict of interest related to the content of the manuscript exists, the scientific editor assigns re-checking and peer review to another reviewer.

The presence of a conflict of interest during consideration and peer review does not mean that the manuscript will necessarily be returned.
