Theoretical Foundations of Interdisciplinary Integration in Environmental Education of Schoolchildren in Kazakhstan

The article is devoted to the theoretical analysis of interdisciplinary integration as a pedagogical mechanism for enhancing the effectiveness of environmental education of schoolchildren in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The relevance of the study is determined by the increasing complexity of environmental challenges and the need to form a holistic ecological worldview and environmental competencies among students, as well as by the fragmented nature of environmental knowledge within subject-based school education. Interdisciplinary integration is considered as a means of overcoming disciplinary fragmentation and ensuring the systemic character of environmental education.
The purpose of the article is to substantiate the theoretical foundations of interdisciplinary integration in environmental education and to identify its pedagogical potential in the formation of environmental competencies among schoolchildren. The object of the study is the process of environmental education in the system of general secondary education in the Republic of Kazakhstan, while the subject is interdisciplinary integration as a way of organizing educational content and teaching methods.
The research is based on a theoretical analysis of psychological, pedagogical and methodological literature, as well as regulatory and legal documents governing environmental education. The genesis of integration ideas in pedagogy is examined, the levels and types of interdisciplinary integration are systematized, and their functions and features in environmental education are revealed. It is shown that the interdisciplinary nature of environmental knowledge objectively requires the integration of content from various academic disciplines.
The distinctive feature of the article lies in a comprehensive consideration of interdisciplinary integration in the context of the Kazakhstani educational system, taking into account regulatory requirements, regional environmental specifics and modern pedagogical approaches. It is concluded that interdisciplinary integration contributes to the development of systemic thinking, value-based attitudes towards the environment and students’ readiness for environmentally responsible behavior.
