Comedy is one of the most studied and theoretically grounded genres within the system of literary classifications. This field has received extensive development in global literary scholarship, and numerous large-scale studies dedicated to the comedy genre have also been conducted in Kazakh literature. This article reviews the scientific conclusions made in previous studies of Kazakh comedy, as well as the content and significance of the “Dialogue Comedy” concept proposed by Zhumabai Abil. Although this term had not been previously established in literary studies, the author reveals its historical and theoretical foundations, starting from oral folk creativity. The researcher demonstrates that comedy is not limited solely to written literature but has deep roots in folklore traditions. The article emphasizes the relevance of the “Dialogue Comedy” concept in contemporary literary studies and folkloristics, as well as its importance in the context of globalization. Furthermore, the genre classification and terminological system developed by Zh. Abil based on this concept are examined, along with the criteria on which it was constructed.
