THE TERMINOLOGY OF POLITICAL INFLUENCE DURING THE TOTALITARIAN PERIOD AND ITS ROLE IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE VICTIM IMAGE

Terms are lexical units, namely words and word combinations, that constitute an important layer of language and enable the systematic designation of specific concepts. The terminological structure of a language is formed and continuously renewed in connection with the changes occurring in the social life of a people.
The historical processes experienced by the Kazakh people during the first half of the twentieth century left deep traces in collective memory. Large-scale historical events such as the uprisings on the eve of the First World War, the establishment of Soviet rule, the years of famine, collectivization policies, and periods of deportation driven by political circumstances followed one another within a short period of time, leading to profound transformations in the social structure. This article examines Operational Order No. 00447, which laid the foundation for the mass administrative and political influence measures implemented in 1937-1938, from linguistic and terminological perspectives. Although the order entered into force on 30 July 1937 under the status of “top secret,” it is today regarded as one of the historical documents open to scholarly examination. Within the framework of the study, the content, articles, and scope of application of the order are analyzed, while the lexical structure of the text, particularly its terminological units, is examined in detail. The principal terms found in the text of the order were identified, classified thematically, and their usage in the Kazakh language was investigated on the basis of dictionary materials. The thematic classification of the terminological structure is of particular importance for explaining, on a scientific and objective basis, the processes experienced by the victims of political influence. In addition, the study aims to systematize the Kazakh-language usage of these terms on the basis of the variants recorded in dictionaries.
The process by which hundreds of thousands of people, who during the Soviet period were labeled as “anti-Soviet elements” and excluded from social life, are today being reassessed within the framework of the image of the “victim” becomes possible through the linguistic and terminological analysis of this order. In this regard, the article seeks to offer a new methodological perspective for future studies in the field of the terminology of political influence.
