Knowledge of a nation’s language and literature naturally plays an important role when it comes to recognising its culture, spiritual world view, behaviour and its ethnic characteristics, as well as examining its similarities and differences with other nations. This is because the uniqueness of a nation is reflected in its linguistic characteristics.
The article deals with the problem of identifying the cognitive model of national and cultural concepts in Turkish and Kazakh languages. For this purpose, the novels “The Black Book” by the Turkish writer Orhan Pamuk and “The Red Arrow” by the Kazakh writer Sherkhan Murtaza were used as a basis. The cognitive model of national and cultural concepts in the works of both writers is determined by the methods of selecting text passages according to their semantic features, as well as analysing, summarising and explaining lexical units. Since national and cultural concepts appear in different forms in the works of the writers, the similarities and semantic-content characteristics of two languages are analysed by selecting stereotypical and associative semantic signs and symbols that reveal their meaning. By recognising the mental images reflected in the writers’ works, it becomes possible to identify the features of national culture and worldview principles and to examine them by means of linguistic lexical units. On the basis of the research methods proposed in this article, the cognitive model of national and cultural concepts characteristics of two languages is determined and their similarities and peculiarities are systematised.
