THE IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ON ACADEMIC WRITING

This article examines the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) tools on the processes of academic writing in higher education and explores their potential to enhance the efficiency of preparing scholarly and educational texts. A systematic analysis was conducted of the possibilities for applying AI at various stages of academic writing, including thesis formulation, text structuring, literature selection, automatic editing, and grammar checking. Special attention is given to identifying potential risks related to academic integrity, such as a decrease in students’ independent thinking, excessive reliance on automated systems, and the possibility of unintentional plagiarism.
The role of the instructor in fostering a culture of responsible AI use is also examined, including the development of methodological approaches, mentoring, and the monitoring of educational practices. Based on the review of existing research and practical case studies, recommendations are proposed for integrating AI into the educational process in ways to promote independent analysis, argumentative writing, and critical thinking, while also adhering to academic integrity and ethical standards.
The study emphasizes the need for a balanced approach to the use of digital technologies, in which automation supports rather than replaces the learning process, ensuring the effective development of competencies in academic writing. Moreover, it is emphasized that the use of AI should complement, rather than replace, traditional teaching methods, creating conditions for a harmonious integration of innovative technologies with students’ active engagement in the educational process.
