The article discusses the problems of automating the process of evaluating students' academic achievements in higher education institutions, as well as theoretical, methodological and practical aspects of automation. The assessment system of students' academic achievements is the main component of ensuring the quality of education. At the present stage, the assessment system has theoretical inconsistencies, psychometric weakness and insufficient digital transformation. In the context of a competence-based approach, the main scientific problem is the objectivity and reliability of the assessment. In the context of modern digitalization, the need for an objective, open and prompt assessment of the quality of education is increasing, and a scientifically based, statistically proven and integrated with digital technologies integrated model is needed to improve the assessment system. Automation of the student achievement assessment system is an important area for improving the quality of education, objective assessment of knowledge and effective management of the educational process. Automated assessment systems make it possible to quickly, accurately and openly determine the level of knowledge, skills and abilities of students. In the course of the study, the quality indicators of the assessment of academic achievements were analyzed, the reliability coefficients of the assessment results, the indicators of variance and measurement error were described, the theoretical foundations of the automation of assessment systems were analyzed, and a model for automating the assessment process was proposed. In addition, the automated evaluation algorithm, data processing methods, and performance indicators were described. The results of the study showed that automation improves the accuracy of assessment, reduces time costs and plays an important role in ensuring academic integrity.
